Construction Waste Management
Track 16-
Construction Waste Management
"Construction
waste" means Waste generated by construction activities, such as scrap,
damaged or spoiled materials, temporary and expendable construction materials,
and aids that are not included in the finished project, packaging materials,
and waste generated by the workforce. Construction
waste management includes: to reduce the generation
of construction waste; to maximise reuse and recycling
and to reduce the intake of mixed construction waste at landfills. Management of construction waste is expensive and often
presents unintended consequences. However, common sense suggests that failure
to reduce, reuse and recycle societal wastes is unsustainable. Some waste
generated in the process of construction can be eliminated. For
example, durable modular metal form systems for use in concrete construction
may be selected on the basis of being readily demountable and reusable on other
projects, thus eliminating wood waste associated with formwork fabricated of
plywood and dimensional lumber.
