The process of collecting waste glass and converting them into useful products is known as glass recycling. The following are the steps followed for recycling:
Collection of waste glass
Crushing and removal of contaminants
Mixing with raw materials to give the desired colour and enrich its characteristics
Melting in furnace
Moulding into new jars or bottles of various designs
Advantages associated with glass recycling are that it saves a lot of energy compared to the energy required for production of new glass. Recycled glass reduces air and water pollution. Occupied space in landfill is lessened to quite an extent. As glass can be fully recycled without loss in purity we should make full utilization of it.
