Dr. Masato R. Nakamura is an environmental engineering scientist and Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology and Industrial Design at New York City College of Technology (City Tech), The City University of New York (CUNY), located in Brooklyn’s DUMBO area, known as the New York City’s highest concentration of tech start-ups. He obtained his BS in Metallurgical Engineering and MS in Materials Science and Engineering at Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan. After graduated, he worked as a systems engineer in Tokyo until he came to New York City in 2001. He obtained a Doctor of Engineering Science (Eng.Sc.D.) in Earth and Environmental Engineering from Columbia University, New York. After that, he worked for several R&D projects related to electric trading system, green data centers, and cloud/virtualization technologies in the financial services industry as a solutions architect at ITOCHU Technology, Inc, a New York-based solutions consulting firm. In 2010, he joined the Earth Engineering Center of Columbia’s Earth Institute as a postdoctoral research scientist working on renewable energy and environmental simulation. Since he was appointed in 2011 as an assistant professor in New York City Tech, CUNY, he has taught courses in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design Technology, and led a research group, Energy and Environmental Simulation Laboratory (EESL).
